Video
Upload a video to the asset library and Fóir processes it in the background. Every video gets a thumbnail, a short preview and its duration, and adaptive HLS streaming is included on some plans.
What every video gets
Fóir reads each uploaded video's duration and dimensions, cuts a still thumbnail (a JPEG, 640 pixels wide) and makes an animated WebP preview of up to four seconds, 320 pixels wide. This happens on every plan.
Adaptive streaming
On plans that include video streaming, the video is also transcoded to adaptive HLS. The renditions are 1440p, 1080p, 720p and 480p, cut into six-second segments. A tier taller than the source is dropped, so a 720p upload is never upscaled. Whether your workspace has streaming depends on your plan.
On a plan without it the video is recorded as not entitled, a different status from a failed transcode, so your client can tell an upgrade case from an error.
What a video field returns
A video field resolves to the file's URL with a thumbnailUrl, a previewUrl and an hlsManifestUrl, plus the width, height, duration, a blurhash, a dominant colour, the MIME type and the file size. The manifest URL goes to your HLS player.
Private video
A private video stays private when it is streamed. The manifest is signed, as are the thumbnail and the preview, and the token is carried onto every rendition and segment.
